This miniature harp is signed and numbered on the brass plate of the neck: Lyon & Healy Chicago Makers U.S.A. N_ 1 Manufactured under the Patents. Under the bottom of the soundbox there is also the number 1578. This instrument is a perfect functioning miniature copy of a large Lyon & Healy concert harp and it was made for the vaudeville harpist Roxy La Rocca, who used to play it during his shows. Actually, this harp is still preserved in its original travel case, labeled with the owner’s name. The legend says that only three harps of this type were built, the first for Roxy La Rocca, the second for another harpist and the third for Harpo Marx. |
