This harp was made in Paris by the Erard atelier; on the back of the neck is engraved the signature: Erard Facteur de Pianos et Harpes 13, 21, Rue du Mail, Paris. From a structural standpoint the soundbox features a semicircular section and reinforcing rods inside; on the back one can see five trapezium shaped soundholes which were once closed by the soupapes, engaged by the eighth pedal of rÈnforcement (lately removed). The neck is made of layered wood and is reinforced on the outside by the brass plates that enclose the double action mechanism à fourchettes. With respect to decoration, this harp conforms to the “Louis XVI” style, roccocù, with a large scroll of acanthus leaves on top of a flower wreath; the column is entirely engraved with pseudo-geometric patterns and it ends with a flow of acanthus leaves. Even the brass pedals are finely graved. The harp’s green color that can be seen today was applied during a later restoration and it is slightly darker than the original color. |
